RETURNING THIS YEAR: Pony Express Relay Race

Pony Express Relay Race

The Pony Express was a mail service delivering messages, newspapers, and mail, it became the West's most direct means of east–west communication before the telegraph was established and was vital for tying the new state of California with the rest of the United States.

Now these cowboys took that idea and brought it back to life in the arena. Spectators will see 4 teams complete in a relay race on horseback. Pony Express is a relay race on horseback requiring timing, hand-eye coordination, patience and teamwork. The race is run in a counter-clockwise direction around four barrels. The object of the race is to successfully hand a baton to your teammate between the first and second barrel with the last rider tossing the baton into a barrel in the center of the arena.

There will be 3 races a night, with 4 teams that will consist of 6-8 men on a team. Two teams will race at a time each team member will run a lap around the barrels then hand off a baton to the next team member till the last man drops the baton in a barrel located in the center of the arena. That team is then declared the winner of that race. The winners in the first two races will then compete in the final race.
